Husin Othman, an emerging Malaysian contemporary painter acclaimed for his happy childhood paintings will be debuting at Maya Gallery, Singapore with his new upcoming solo known as Nostalgia Timur. It is an exciting body of works that touches on our childhood memories and granting the viewers a reflective perspective on the long lost but not forgotten memories of the past.
Husin Othman has been actively involved in the Malaysian art scene since he as a graduated with a fine art degree from the renown UiTM (University of Teknologi MARA). Upon graduation, he won the UOB Painting of the Year (Malaysia) Award for the Most Promising Artist of the Year in Emerging Category. His recent two man show in 2018 was a hit with most pieces collected by both collectors and art enthusiasts. On top of that, his works has also been exhibited in Shanghai, Bangkok and Taiwan with favourable enthusiasm from his regional collectors.
Nostalgia Timur featuring 16 paintings will grant an exciting insight into the progressive development of Husin’s artistic career. Audiences will be able to view his transformation from as early as year 2014 where his strong signature strokes of realist figures set against the minimal background up to year 2018 where his composition becomes more complex yet with a harmonious blend of bright and bold solid forms to his current latest development where he revisits his well-known free hand lines and contours that almagates subtly into his paintings.
Nostalgia Timur is a personal reflection of the artist to bring back cherishable lost memories. Seeing these paintings themselves will naturally bring a smile to one as those is an advocation of memories of Southeast Asian culture and past narrative that still hold a very strong value to our hearts.
